About the role

Working closely with more experienced engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders, you will translate customer and business needs into reliable, secure, and maintainable engineering solutions. AI-native development. Learn to use AI tools and practices across the software development lifecycle in a disciplined way. Begin to take responsibility for the content of your AI-generated changes - reviewing all changes and asking more experienced teammates for help as needed. Coding. Write extensible, maintainable code for a product, service, or feature, applying coding patterns, best practices, and GenAI-assisted approaches with guidance. Participate in code reviews to build your skills and learn team standards and begin using automated source-code analysis tools in the build process. Use debugging tools, tests, logs, and telemetry to help flag issues before they reach production, contribute to incident retrospectives, and escalate blockers along with their impact on timelines. Design. Explore and test design options for a feature under the technical leadership of more experienced engineers, outlining strengths and weaknesses and producing code to test hypotheses. Contribute to design documents for simple user stories with oversight, help identify dependencies and downstream interactions, and build your understanding of performance, scalability, resiliency, cost, security, and compliance in systems architecture. Testing and quality. Collaborate to understand and execute a defined test strategy that ensures quality and prevents regressions. Build testable code under guidance, assist with security testing (including negative cases), and begin using AI tools for test automation. Engineering excellence. Help ensure the right processes are followed for security, privacy, safety, and accessibility, and contribute to compliance evidence such as audit trails. Learn and apply “security as code” practices and contribute to deployment gates, security monitoring, threat models, premortems, and AI safety features with supervision. Contribute to automation across build, deployment, and non-production testing, and reuse open-source or internal code responsibly. Planning and implementation. Help break work items into tasks and provide estimates with your team, escalating issues that could cause delays. Follow safe change-deployment practices (e.g., correct flighting) with guidance to minimize customer impact, help keep only secure, up-to-date dependency versions deployed, and know when to enact rollback plans. Reliability and supportability. Act as a designated responsible individual (DRI) for simpler live-site problems - monitoring for degradation or downtime, following the playbook, responding within SLA, and escalating complex issues appropriately. Participate in the on-call rotation, mitigate issues using the minimum required permissions, recommend improvements to troubleshooting guides and telemetry, and help integrate logging and instrumentation to monitor performance, reliability, availability, usage, and safety. Understand user requirements. Partner with stakeholders (e.g., product managers, security and privacy experts, technical leads) to understand customer requirements for a feature. Incorporate customer insights and continuous feedback loops with oversight and develop an understanding of the security and privacy needs of the customers who will use Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline with proven 1+ years of experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR equivalent experience. Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, agentic coding workflows, GenAI-based code review and test generation) across the software development lifecycle, including reviewing and taking responsibility for AI-generated changes and applying Responsible AI practices. Experience writing extensible, maintainable code and applying coding patterns, best practices, and automated source-code analysis tools within the build and development process. Experience using debugging tools, tests, logs, and telemetry to proactively flag and mitigate issues before they reach production and contributing to incident retrospectives to identify root causes. Exposure to evaluating design options and contributing to design documents, with awareness of performance, scalability, resiliency, cost, security, privacy, and compliance considerations in systems architecture. Experience identifying dependencies and understanding downstream interactions between systems and partner teams. Experience contributing to a defined test strategy and building testable code, including security testing (with negative cases) and using AI tools for test automation. Familiarity with security best practices such as “security as code,” threat modeling, premortems, deployment gates, and security monitoring, along with privacy, safety, and accessibility compliance requirements. Experience contributing to build and deployment automation and following safe change-deployment practices (e.g., flighting) and rollback plans to minimize customer impact. Experience participating in an on-call rotation or acting as a designated responsible individual (DRI) monitoring live-site health, following playbooks, responding within SLA, and escalating appropriately. Experience integrating logging, instrumentation, and telemetry to monitor performance, reliability, availability, usage, and safety, including for live-site operations and A/B experiments. Experience partnering with stakeholders (e.g., product managers, technical leads, security and privacy experts) to understand customer requirements and incorporate customer insights and feedback loops. Experience collaborating in cross-functional teams and communicating technical concepts clearly, both verbally and in writing, to achieve shared, mutually beneficial goals.
