PayPal is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to define the technical roadmap and drive innovation on its global payments platform. You will design, develop, and optimize core backend services that power millions of daily transactions, working closely with product and engineering leadership to deliver impactful business outcomes. Responsibilities

Acts as project/system leader, coordinating activities of other engineers. Determines technical tasks and priorities for the engineering team. Exercises judgement in resolving diverse and competing priorities. Notices patterns and creates generalised, reusable solutions. Proactively improves existing systems, processes, and code quality. Mentors and influences engineering teams to foster a culture of innovation.

Requirements

Minimum 8 years of relevant backend development experience. Bachelor degree in Computer Science or equivalent. Deep proficiency in Java backend development. Expert in Java EE: Spring MVC, Hibernate, application servers. Leadership in designing scalable backend systems with cloud-native focus. Expertise in fault-tolerant, high-availability system design. Agile/Scrum methodology experience preferred.
